Go Gives Back over $10,000!!

One of the many things I love about my company is its position on philanthropy. At every closing agents donate $50 to our favorite charity and Go matches that amount. It’s not a choice to participate, it’s just part of who we are.

That means that four times a year we can deliver checks to an organization that means a lot to each of us. Some agents donate to their local food bank, others to Susan G Koman and still forty other organizations benefit from this generosity. Over $10,000 was distributed today to charities near and dear to the hearts of our agents.

My charity is the Children’s Craniofacial Association (CCA). My first-born child Parker was born with a two congenital birth defects called microtia and hemi-facial microsomia. The easiest way to explain it is he has a short jaw and little ear on his left side.

Fortunately he has a mild case of both and overall he is living a very normal life of a third grader, but we are coming upon a big moment in his life when we will start his reconstruction surgeries. On Nov 9th he will have a jaw distraction surgery to lengthen the left side. I come upon this date with both excitement and nervousness as we’ve waited a long time to get to this point.

There will be a few more surgeries behind this one to make other minor corrections and in the end he will also have a new prosthetic ear. Building up to this surgery we have had several appointments at Duke to meet with the various doctors on his team. Although this process has been hard on both our time and our wallet I am thankful that we have the resources to do what is best for our child.

There are other parents not so lucky and this is where CCA comes into play. They are there as a resource both emotionally and often financially for parents going through the same situation and often much worse than ours. I am happy to be able to contribute to that cause and am thankful that my company supports a cause near and dear to my heart!
